What Do Snapchat Context Cards Mean for Businesses Owners?

Publish Date: 10/11/2017

Snapchat recently joined the local search game with the rollout of new context cards this week and implementation of the “Snap Map” a few months ago. Now, when users snap from businesses, parks, and other notable locations, the picture or video is automatically appended with the place name.

But there’s more to context cards than is immediately apparent. When users tap on the card, they are presented with the business address, phone number, hours of operation, and reviews from TripAdvisor. Context cards from snaps at restaurants may even include the restaurant menu!

So what does this mean for business owners? Right now, there’s no way to log in to snapchat to customize your context card. Rather, the information on the card is automatically pulled from Snapchat partners such as Foursquare, OpenTable, TripAdvisor, Uber, Lyft, and Snapchat will be adding others partners soon.

Because the context card is gathered from many different places, it’s critically important to make sure business information is correct on these listing platforms and others. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Is my business name, address, and phone number (NAP Data) the same on all listings?
  • When is the last time I updated my menu online? (Not just on the website)
  • What’s my average review score – On TripAdvisor, Google, Yelp, and Facebook?
  • Is someone actively replying to reviews for my business?
